If you know the poem ‘Ramayana’ then you will know about Nashik in India, also known as Nasik. Nashik is an ancient city, a holy city, in Maharashtra, a state in Western India. The city is built along the banks of the Godavari River and there are several large and holy bathing Ghats. You can see many a pilgrim bathing in the river, praying and giving offerings to the Gods. There are also kids playing side by side the pilgrims, people doing their washing and tourists clicking their cameras.

Every twelve years Nashik hosts the grand Kumbh Mela, which is the largest religious gathering on earth. The last one was in 2015 and the next one will be in 2027.

Besides the many ancient temples of Nashik a new industry is growing. Or – two new industries are growing. Wine is the one industry and Information Technology is the other.

India has never been a huge wine destination but this is the area of India that does have beautiful vineyards out in the countryside. The Sula Vineyards command over half of India’s wine market, but there are many other players in the market. Grover Zampa, Chandon, the Soma Vine Village and York Winery are all big, offer wine tours and wine tastings and make Nashik a good place to visit.

And then, there is IT.
